OSHKOSH, WI – (WGBW & WISS) – Candidate for US Senator for Wisconsin, Eric Hovde made campaign stops in Northeast Wisconsin Monday, including a Title IX roundtable discussion in Oshkosh. Hovde appeared alongside conservative political commentator Ben Shapiro. They heard from representatives from Moms for Liberty, and communities such as Winneconne, Pulaski, and Oshkosh.

The primary discussion about Title IX focused on the protections afforded to those persons who are non-gender-conforming. Hovde said allowing biological males to compete with girls is not fair to female athletes.

“A boy is a boy. A girl is a girl. They are different. They need their private spaces,” said Hovde.

Hovde is a Republican running against Democratic incumbent US Senator Tammy Baldwin. He believes the federal government and the Department of Education are partially to blame.

“There’s so many different layers that we’re talking about right now to this issue. And a big layer of it is that the federal government is using our taxpayer dollars and imposing views that this community does not agree with,” said Hovde. “It’s their taxpayer dollars! So the farther we remove decision-making from where people are taxed, the worse outcomes you’re going to get.”

Recently Title IX has been a subject of discussion and debate at Oshkosh Area School District (OASD). The OASD voted to approve 2024 Title IX policy updates during their meeting on September 11, 2024.

Hovde and Shapiro also attended a fireside chat in Elkhart Lake on Monday evening.
