MADISON, Wis. (CIVIC MEDIA) – Governor Tony Evers will propose $300 million for school mental health resources in his State of the State address.

Evers’ office sent excerpts of Wednesday night’s speech to media outlets. It said he’ll be pushing for $300 million to help kids with mental health in school.

Department of Public Instruction Superintendent Jill Underly asked for the funding in her budget proposal for the department.

Her proposal includes:

  • Expanding the School-Based Mental Health Services Program, and giving districts an extra $100 per pupil.
  • Make more mental health services for students eligible for reimbursement.
  • Expanding training.
  • Expanding the Peer-to-Peer Suicide Prevention Grant Program.
  • Increasing funding for education on alcohol and drug abuse.
