APPLETON, WI- (WISS) – Ahead of President Donald Trump’s address to Congress last night, about 500 protesters gathered in Houdini Plaza in Appleton to protest policies enacted by the new administration and to support Ukraine, the LGBTQ+ community and women’s rights.
The protest organized by Appleton Area NOW and Indivisible Fox Valley WI focused on several issues, such as potential cuts to Medicaid and public schools and Elon Musk’s influence over the Department of Government Efficiency.
Many protesters carried signs expressing thoughts about abortion, support for the LGBTQ+ community, concerns about Elon Musk’s involvement in the government, support for Ukraine, and dissent over cuts and decisions made in the first months of the Trump Administration.
The protest was just one of many held throughout the state and country. Yesterday, there were also protests in Madison and Stephens Point.
