RACINE, Wis (WRJN) – The Racine Common Council and several city committees will temporarily relocate their meetings to the Racine Public Library beginning Monday, as City Hall’s elevator undergoes repairs expected to last about two months.

Mayor Cory Mason said the move is intended to ensure accessibility for all residents in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. “We chose the library to make sure everyone can participate in city government while the elevator is out of service,” Mason said on The Don Rosen Show last week.

Meetings affected by the change include the Common Council, Finance and Personnel, Public Safety and Licensing, and Public Works and Services committees.

Other city boards and commissions will announce meeting locations in their posted agendas.

Officials are encouraging those with accessibility needs looking for assistance at City Hall to call 262-636-9171 for curbside service.

Upcoming agenda items for the Common Council meeting Tuesday include discussions on employee healthcare plans, restoration of Mound Cemetery’s fountain, and road salt pricing for the 2025-2026 winter. Mayor Mason is also recommending that June 29 be declared Racine Pride Day, with city-sponsored events and street closures for Pride Month and Juneteenth celebrations.
