OSHKOSH, WI—(WISS)— They are the Three U’s: the unemployed, underemployed, and unhappily employed. Now there is a dedicated space on the second floor of the Oshkosh Public Library to help them find employment. It’s called the JobPod. It officially opened its doors on Friday.

“ The future of this will be positive. I think it’s gonna make a difference in a community that faces … the complications that come from unemployment, underemployment,” said Library Director Darryl Eschete. “I think that this is the kind of thing that a community like Oshkosh should be doing.”

The JobPod, powered by Microsoft, is a space that provides essential tools, training, and expert guidance for job seekers.

JobPod helps

“ A pod really does clear the way for job seekers to connect with workforce development experts, to connect with local and regional employment opportunities, and to connect with training regardless of where they live, regardless of what their comfort level is, regardless of what their access is,” said Danielle Zeamer, JobPod Program Coordinator.

A grant partnership with the Fox Valley Workforce Development helped the library fund JobPod. Sarah Pantol, chair of the Fox Valley Workforce Development Board, said efforts like this are vital for those seeking work.

“ This isn’t replacing the work we do; it’s enhancing it. It creates another access point for job seekers, especially during evenings, weekends, and holidays when our physical job center locations may be closed,” Pantol said. “Partnerships like this demonstrate what we already know, that we are stronger and our impact is greater when we work together.”

The Oshkosh Public Library also partnered with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, the Nicolet Federated Library System, and Brown County Libraries to create and fund the JobPod.
